Prize winner 2010 - Bill Drayton / Ashoka-Globalizer

Bill Drayton - a pioneer in the concept of Social Entrepreneurs - comes from the USA and is the founder/chairman of Ashoka, an international nonprofit-organisation whose goal is to support social entrepreneurs across the globe. Since its foundation in 1980, the organisation has supported worldwide the work of over 2,000 Social Entrepreneurs.

Bill Drayton receives the Essl Social Prize 2010 for his life's work. The Ashoka Globalizer initiative was created with the prize money, which should contribute to the globalisation of proven social projects.

Prize winner 2009 - Szekeres Tiborné / Tibor háza

Ms. Szekeres began some 22 years ago in Hungary to build up the foundation "for equal rights!". She has a severly handicapped son and wanted originally through her own initiative to create better living conditions for him. Since then numerous housing and workplaces for disabled people have been developed, where they can be supported in a variety of ways.

With the prize money from the Essl Social Prize 2009, "Tibor háza" was built. A four-storey home, where all the special needs of its residents can be catered for.

Prize winner 2008 - Father Georg Sporschill / Casa Abraham

Father Georg Sporschill founded the social project "Concordia - City of Children" over 16 years ago for the street children of Romania. After a life on the streets, 90 children and adolescents can find here shelter and security. Now it is time to give the grown up children vocational training, and thus offer them a new perspective on life.

With the prize money from the Essl Social Prize an education- and apartment- house was built for 24 teenagers, under the name "CASA ABRAHAM".
