The Essl family is an entrepreneurial family who, as owners of the Schömer/bauMax Group, is active in real estate as well as in the construction and DIY industry in Central and Southeastern Europe.
The Essl family is guided by the Christian faith which, both ethically and as a tradition, informs all of their actions in everyday life.
For this reason the Essl family not only acts to ensure the success of their business, but also finds that this success entails a responsibility toward society and the environment. This is reflected in a diverse range of social and business activities that include a large number of individual projects such as the Essl Museum, the bauMax Energy-Saving Programme and the bauMax Humanity Programm.
In 2007 Martin and Gerda Essl established the Essl Foundation, which awards the international Essl Social Prize once per year.
