The collection of international contemporary art owned by Agnes und Karlheinz Essl consists of 6,000 works of art and offers a unique view of art in the 20th and early 21st centuries. The collection, which took on an international focus in the 1990s, ranges from Art Informel to Viennese Actionism and the realistic trends in the 1970s all to the way to the New Spirit Painting of the 1980s and style and media pluralism of the present. It also includes an unparalleled documentation of post-WWII Austrian painting, putting it in an international context.
